Bike and Pedestrian Counter Project

The Memphis Medical District Collaborative, in partnership with the City of Memphis, is conducting a bicycle and pedestrian counter project that will collect data on how the Madison corridor is being utilized. The locations selected for this project are Madison and Cleveland, UTHSC, Madison and Dunlap, and Downtown.

Pedestrian and bike counters will be placed at the designated locations to effectively count the number of people that are passing through the space. The bike counters and the pedestrian counters will be at each location for two weeks total. The pedestrian counters are lasers that count up each time the beam is broken by a passerby. The bike counter is a street track that will span the length of the street and count each time a cyclist crosses over it. We hope the information that we acquire from this project will inform the streetscape development work that takes place along the corridor.
