Medical District Public Art Planning Grant

ARTIST RELIEF FUND

The Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) is a community development organization working with partners to strengthen the communities in the Memphis Medical District so that they are more livable, vibrant, and safe. In support of this mission, MMDC facilitates public art programming that connects artists with community stakeholders to create interventions that are engaging and reflective of the neighborhoods in the District.

MMDC is launching a new grant program to support Memphis-area creatives (visual artists, designers, etc.) during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to receive concepts to be considered for future public art projects located in the Memphis Medical District. To be considered for this program, applicants should submit their qualifications via a statement of interest, resume, and samples of their work.

MMDC will partner with Wonder/Cowork/Create to facilitate the program. Wonder CC is a flexible co-working space that supports entrepreneurs and collaborations across sectors, and partners with local organizations to help grow and connect Memphis creatives.

Selected finalists will receive a $2,000 grant to develop a project concept envisioned for the Medical District. MMDC seeks broad/”blue sky” concepts in any media, theme, or duration (i.e.: temporary, event, long-term, socially/community-engaged, mural, sculpture, interactive, digital, etc.). Concepts should consider or connect to a site/location(s) in the District; a partner organization/business in the District; and/or MMDC programmatic goals (activating public space; enhancing safety; engaging District employees, students, and residents; supporting business and economic development, transportation, and real estate). Proposed projects should be achievable within a budget of less than $50,000.
